What FUSHI Is
FUSHI is a platform rooted in Japanese wood culture. It integrates research, practice, and dialogue into one continuous movement. It is structured as a company, yet functions as a living site of inquiry.
FUSHIは、日本の木の文化を基盤とする実践プラットフォームです。研究・実践・対話を、分断せずひとつの営みとして統合しています。会社という形をとりながら、探究の現場として機能しています。
Why It Exists
Why It Exists
People have long understood wood by living and working with it.
Before wood could be used well, it first had to be understood — through observation, experience, and continuous practice. Traditional techniques preserve not only methods of making, but also ways of understanding wood.
FUSHI exists to explore this accumulated understanding through human practice, and to carry it forward into the present. Its aim is not to recreate the past, but to continue discovering new ways for people and wood to exist together.
人は長い時間をかけて、木とともに暮らし、木を使う中で、その性質を理解してきました。
木を活かして使うためには、まず木を理解する必要があります。その理解は、観察や経験、そして営みの積み重ねによって育まれてきました。伝統技術は、技術そのものだけではなく、木を理解する方法も受け継いでいます。
FUSHIは、人の営みを通して蓄積されてきた木への理解を探究し、それを現代へつないでいくために存在しています。目的は過去を再現することではなく、人と木が新たな関係を築き続ける可能性を探ることです。
How It Works
FUSHI operates through three interconnected movements:
Research — studying traditional wood knowledge and its contemporary relevance.
Practice — developing wood-based material initiatives grounded in field practice.
Dialogue — creating spaces for shared reflection through tours, lectures, and international programs.

Material Initiatives
Projects such as Himekomatsu and HIDA LEATHER emerge from this structure.
They are not separate brands, but material extensions of wood-based inquiry.
素材プロジェクト ヒメコマツやヒダレザーといった取り組みは、この構造から生まれています。それらは独立した商品群ではなく、木文化探究の延長にある素材展開です。
