FUSHI is a quiet initiative based in Hida, Japan—dedicated to the cultural legacy of trees
We work with local resources like Himekomatsu and HIDA beef leather, reviving the forgotten wisdom of how trees once shaped our tools, our homes, and our values.
飛騨の森に根ざしたFUSHIは、木の文化を未来へつなぐ静かな取り組みです。ヒメコマツや飛騨牛革といった地域資源を軸に、かつての暮らしに宿っていた木の知恵と向き合いながら、手仕事・研究・記録・交流など多角的な活動を続けています。
What "FUSHI" Means
In Japanese, fushi (節) refers to the knots in wood—points of transformation, where tension becomes structure.
For us, FUSHI represents those quiet turning points in life, where craft, culture, and nature intersect.
「FUSHI（節）」という言葉は、日本語で木の節を意味します。そこは、しなりと緊張が形に変わる、転換点です。私たちにとってのFUSHIとは、手仕事・文化・自然が静かに交わり、変化が始まる場所の象徴なのです。
Our Philosophy
We believe that wood is not just a material, but a memory.
It remembers the forest it came from, the people who shaped it, and the hands that carry it forward.
Our approach is slow, careful, and rooted in listening.
We value tools that fit the hand, traditions that fit the land, and stories that fit the heart.

木は、単なる素材ではなく、記憶であると私たちは考えます。それは森を覚えており、削った人の気配をまとい、受け継がれていく手のぬくもりを宿します。私たちのものづくりは、ゆっくりと、丁寧に、木の声に耳をすませながら進みます。手になじむ道具、大地に根ざす伝統、心にしみ込む物語を大切にしています。FUSHIは、ブランドではありません。木とともに在るという、生き方のひとつなのです。

🌳 Crafts from Trees
We create custom-made wooden furniture and fixtures, tools made from Hida beef leather.

We offer forest walks, tool-making demonstrations, tea gatherings, and various workshops to share the wisdom of trees and traditional craftsmanship.
📚 Research & Preservation
We conduct historical research, produce documentary films, and engage in global exchanges to explore and preserve the cultural significance of wood.
