Why FUSHI HOUSE?
FUSHI HOUSE was created as a place to explore the relationship between people and wood.
Built with locally sourced, naturally dried timber and finished without coatings, it is not simply a house. It is a place for research, making, dialogue, and everyday practice rooted in Japanese wood culture.
This approach begins with Shiraki, the Japanese tradition of uncoated wood.
FUSHI HOUSEは、人と木との関係を探究するためにつくられました。地域の自然乾燥材を用い、無塗装・刃物仕上げで建てられています。住まいであると同時に、日本の木文化を研究し、実践し、対話するための拠点です。この建物の基盤には、日本に伝わる「白木」という木のあり方があります。
Shiraki - Uncoated Wood
Shiraki refers to wood left uncoated after being carefully finished with hand tools. In Japan, it has shaped houses, tools, and spiritual spaces through everyday use.
白木とは、塗装をせず、刃物で丁寧に仕上げた木のことです。
日本では、住まい、道具、信仰の空間を形づくる木のあり方として用いられてきました。

FUSHI HOUSE
Living, dialogue, and research.
Wood Culture Workshop
The primary space for handcraft, demonstrations, and dialogue.
Production Workshop
The main workspace for fabrication and preparation.
Woodshop
A machine workshop used for fabrication, prototyping, and woodworking. Depending on the project, visiting researchers, craftspeople may also use this space.
Material Storage
Storage and natural conditioning of wood materials.
Assembly Area
Preparation, assembly, and finishing work.
Kimachiba (Wood Yard)
A place where wood waits before becoming material.
Spaces That Grow
These spaces are never truly finished.
They grow through the people who use them.
