For students, young craftspeople, and invited guests who wish to experience Japanese wood culture through everyday practice. Participants share time with FUSHI by joining its ongoing work and activities.

For researchers and graduate students conducting field-based study.
Visits are arranged according to the research purpose and schedule.

Community Visit
A shared experience of everyday practice.
Community Visits are intended for students, young craftspeople, and invited guests who wish to experience Japanese wood culture through everyday practice.
Rather than following a prepared program, participants accompany Yoshiyuki Makino during his regular work.
Community Visitは、日本の木文化に関心を持つ学生、若い職人、招待者のための交流です。あらかじめ用意されたプログラムではなく、牧野泰之の日常の仕事に同行しながら時間を共にします。
What It Is
Community Visits are not guided tours.
They are opportunities to share everyday practice, observe work as it unfolds, and experience Japanese wood culture through real situations rather than scheduled activities. Every visit is different.
Community Visitは、ガイドツアーではありません。日々の実践を共にし、その時々に行われている仕事や出来事を通して、日本の木文化に触れる機会です。あらかじめ決められたプログラムではなく、訪れるたびに内容は変わります。

Duration
Community Visits typically last 1–4 days.
They are intended as short-term exchanges that fit within the rhythm of everyday practice.
Longer engagements may be better suited to the Research Residency program.
期間
Community Visitは通常、1〜4日程度です。日々の実践の流れの中で行う、短期間の交流を目的としています。より長い滞在や研究を希望される方は、Research Residencyをご検討ください。
Fee
There is no participation fee for Community Visits.
Participants are responsible for their own accommodation, meals, and transportation.
As Community Visits are part of FUSHI’s ongoing cultural exchange, participation is offered only when schedules and purposes align.

Community Visitは木文化を通じた継続的な交流活動として行っており、日程や目的が合う場合に限り受け入れています

Each request is considered individually, based on your interests, the purpose of your visit, and our current activities.

Research Residency
A place to develop research through practice.
Research Residency is designed for researchers, artists, designers, and practitioners who wish to deepen a specific inquiry through direct engagement with wood culture in Hida.
Rather than simply observing, participants develop their own research while working alongside FUSHI’s ongoing activities.
Research Residencyは、飛騨の木文化と関わりながら、自らの研究や制作を深めたい研究者、アーティスト、デザイナー、実践者のためのプログラムです。見学するだけではなく、FUSHIの日々の活動と関わりながら、それぞれのテーマを発展させていきます。
Research Support
Depending on your research, support may include:
- Access to FUSHI HOUSE, including the Wood Culture Workshop and shared spaces
- Access to the Woodshop for machine work, when appropriate
- Introduction to local craftspeople and specialists
- Guidance in forests and timber yards
- Access to materials when appropriate
- Discussion and feedback at agreed points during your stay
Support is tailored to each participant’s research and is planned together in advance.
研究支援内容
研究テーマに応じて、以下のような支援を行います。
- FUSHI HOUSE（Wood Culture Workshop・共有スペースを含む）の利用
- 必要に応じた Woodshop（機械場）の利用
- 地域の職人・専門家の紹介
- 森や木材に関する現地案内
- 必要に応じた木材の提供
- 滞在中、事前に相談した範囲での対話と助言
支援内容は、それぞれの研究内容に応じて事前に相談しながら決定します。
Duration
Research Residencies may range from a few days to several weeks, depending on the nature of the research.
The duration is discussed individually before the residency begins.
期間
Research Residencyは、研究内容に応じて数日から数週間程度を想定しています。期間は、研究テーマに合わせて事前に相談のうえ決定します。
Fee
7,000 JPY per day
Maximum 90,000 JPY per residency
The fee supports research guidance, access to facilities, and the time required to support each participant’s project.
Accommodation, meals, and transportation are not included.

Private Wood Culture Dialogue
A dedicated half-day dialogue for professionals.
Private Wood Culture Dialogue is designed for professionals who wish to explore Japanese wood culture through focused conversation with Yoshiyuki Makino.
Rather than a guided tour, it is a dedicated time for discussion, questions, and critical reflection shaped around your own interests and work.
専門家のための半日の対話。
Private Wood Culture Dialogueは、日本の木文化について牧野泰之と集中的に対話したい専門家のためのプログラムです。ガイドツアーではなく、それぞれの仕事や関心に合わせて問いを深めるための時間です。
Topics of Dialogue
Dialogue may include topics such as:
- The structure of traditional Japanese wood culture
- The practice of Kure-hegi
- The relationship between forests, materials, and human life
- How Japanese wood culture may connect with your own work or field
Each dialogue develops according to the interests and questions you bring.
対話のテーマ
対話では、例えば次のようなテーマを扱います。

内容は、参加される方の問いや関心に応じて、その都度組み立てられます。
Location
Held at FUSHI HOUSE in Hida Takayama, Japan.
Depending on the dialogue, visits to the surrounding forest or Hida Folk Village may also become part of the experience.
