FUSHI is a quiet initiative based in Hida, Japan—dedicated to the cultural legacy of trees
We work with local resources like Himekomatsu and HIDA beef leather, reviving the forgotten wisdom of how trees once shaped our tools, our homes, and our values.
飛騨の森に根ざしたFUSHIは、木の文化を未来へつなぐ静かな取り組みです。ヒメコマツや飛騨牛革といった地域資源を軸に、かつての暮らしに宿っていた木の知恵と向き合いながら、手仕事・研究・記録・交流など多角的な活動を続けています。
What "FUSHI" Means
“FUSHI” means “knot” in Japanese—the trace of a branch, often regarded as a flaw. Yet it is also where the memory of growth condenses, a place where force gathers and takes on form.
For us, FUSHI symbolizes a quiet intersection of craft, culture, and nature—a point where new change begins.
「FUSHI（節）」という言葉は、日本語で木の節を意味します。節はしばしば嫌われがちな部分ですが、それは枝の痕跡であり、木の成長の記憶が凝縮された場所です。力が集まり、形を変えて現れる転換点。私たちにとってのFUSHIとは、手仕事・文化・自然が静かに交わり、新しい変化が芽生える場所の象徴なのです。
Our Philosophy

Message from the Founder
I did not choose wood. It was wood that guided me.
Listening closely, I began to realize— wood carries its own rhythm, its own wisdom, its own quiet voice.
My hope is to share this voice with others, not only as memory, but as living craft and culture.
To keep learning from the trees as they age, bend, and endure—
and to help carry their wisdom forward into the lives of people and communities.
