KURE
Wood is not cut. It is split.
When wood is split, its internal structure is not destroyed, but revealed. Grain, tension, direction — what was hidden begins to appear. KURE is not a product. It is a way of seeing wood.
Kure are thin wooden boards split from logs, following the natural fibers of the tree. Our KURE is made from Japanese chestnut — Kuri. A hardwood prized for its durability since the Jomon period.
Unlike sawn boards, they are created by splitting the wood itself, revealing the natural structure hidden inside the tree.
This technique has been used in Japan for centuries, especially for roofing materials.
Because the fibers remain intact, split boards resist water penetration and weathering.
榑（くれ）
木を割ると、内部の構造は壊されるのではなく、現れる。木理、張力、繊維の向き。
これまで見えなかったものが、姿をあらわす。
榑は、製品ではない。 木の見方である。
木の繊維に沿って割り出して作る薄い板。私たちの榑は、日本の栗材（クリ）から作られています。縄文時代から使われてきた、耐久性の高い広葉樹です。製材ではなく、木を割ることで作られるため、木の内部構造がそのまま現れます。
日本では古くから屋根材として使われてきました。
繊維が切断されないため、水が内部に浸透しにくく、耐久性に優れています。
